Mother Teaches What Matters

Updated: May 8, 2020

Life is a revealed Treasure.

We are all born from Mother. We are all born on the Mother. This great, beautiful planet provides all we need to live, and once living to use the gifts here in order to create, it itself, an honouring, a celebration of the Creator/Creatress.

The great, esteemed teachers from the original peoples of California and Hawaii. Traditions I was trained in, the lineage keeper of the Chumash, the Cauhilla, and the Kahuna all began with prolonged, careful observation of this Great Mother Earth.

My teachers taught by not saying much, but through developing in me first the ability to empty out my preconditioning and then to observe closely those who were put here 1st by the Creator: water, wind, earth and fire, plants, insects, animals.

These were and are the most profound of teachers that tell us how to live in balance on our Mothers Body.

These beings born on this planet we share do not have Mind in the way we do. We came last and as last were given all the gifts we can observe in Nature as well as the penultimate gift – the Mind. The Mind, however, is a double-edged sword. With mind we have the very unique opportunity to become conscious and through the act of perceiving, consciously unite all that is seen. Or we can use mind in order to separate ourselves, insulate ourselves, divide ourselves from each other and creation.

The Mother teaches us all we need to know and the way to know is abudantly provided. Yesterday, my daughter came upstairs with a look of wonder and excitement on her lovely face. Up until then she had been buried deep in study for her post-graduate degree. This week especially the workload was enormous. I saw little of her, and when I did, she was deeply preoccupied in fullfilling the tasks given to her. So when she came up the stairs with excitement and wonder in her eyes I was curious to know what happened.

She crossed over to me and said, “I didn't know they had glittering, furry legs!”, and with that she showed me her phone. She had caught a picture of a daddy longlegs with two of its legs reaching up over the window ledge from the wall. The beautiful Autumn light was just right, and back lit its long, graceful legs. And there, wonder of wonder, the beauty of its leg was revealed. Furry, and sparkling in rainbow lights and gold.

The first children of the Great Mother teach us about the Four Great Pillars of Being: Awareness, Knowledge, Emptyness, Body Speech and Mind.

Awareness: Is a curious thing. I am is witnessing ItSelf.

Knowledge: is cultivated through the consistent inquiry “Who Am I?”

Emptyness: the space in which Seeing occurs and the knowledge that what appears, disappears and what is always there is the Emptyness that contains it.

Body, Speech and Mind: A true understanding of these gifts and the way in which to utilise them can then be applied.

By observing nature with these pillars in mind, we can see and understand the unique beingness of all creation and how it is inter-related. Because we perceive this, it occurrs in us, as us. And this then fosters the Mother in each of us. That our understanding of natural phenomena occurs in us we easily apply the attributes of the Mother Principle – unconditional Love and Compassion.

Imagine a world where every Human has this realization and Lives from it! Imagine the way we would care for ourselves and each other and every other being on this planet.

The first nations people taught that the Stone people are the oldest beings on earth. They are in fact the first children of the Great Mother. Therefore they have ancient wisdom. When you wanted to cultivate a deep perspective you went to where there were the Great Mother Stones (the mountains) and walked, looking at all her children at your feet. You waited until one sang to you and then you asked permission to take it. You only took ones on the surface because ones under the ground had not yet decided to been seen. This is respect in action.

The Great Mother is Alive and that is where the river of understanding can begin. Everything that is part of Her, is on Her, is alive. To walk with that is to walk differently. This cultivates gratitude. When we are Grateful we are not Greedy.
